Often beads can be purchased in vials or bags, depending on the venue or shop. These seed beads are easy to see in clear vials for color reference. |

Bead hanks are sold in various
sizes from size 5 and up. The larger the number, the smaller the
bead and the smaller the hole for thread pass-through. Since I use a
milliner's needle and double Silamide thread, I use size 11 and under for
beading on quilts. Examine the beads for quality. If they are cut glass such as these to the left, make sure the edges of the beads are not chipped or have sharp edges. Sharp and chipped edges will break beading thread very easily. |

Often beads are sold singly. This is helpful when purchasing special beads in small quantities when only a few are needed. But if a volume of beads are needed, for a quilt, buying them this way can be pricey. |
